Everything's Bigger in Texas

We left Austin (later than anticipated due to sleeping in, of course), and headed across Texas to Odessa. We are now at Ben's parents' house, which was a surprise "pop visit". Ben texted his mom this morning and said, "No questions allowed...just make some of your rolls." Robbie has obsessed over these homemade rolls for several years, and now I can see why. We pulled up to the house, and we were warmly received with hugs. Ben's mom had a fantastic dinner waiting for us (or whoever the mystery guests were going to be), and she is now making us some cookies for the road. How amazing is that?

We spent most of the day driving through central and western Texas. We have some pictures that we will share tomorrow. Most of the view was dominated by small towns, miniscule post offices, and lots of pickup trucks. We spotted our first cactus, and we listed to most of the rest of our book on tape. Tomorrow is the day we finally stop mooching off of the kindness of our friends/family and officially become homeless. We are hoping to set up camp somewhere between Calsbad Caverns and Roswell for our first home base. We are also planning on spending some time in Guadalupe Mountains National Park either Tuesday or Wednesdsay, so we'll be bidding adieu to Texas, but then popping back in again for a few hours. We'll probably spend 2-3 days touring around in New Mexico.

So check back in tomorrow for the Texas pictures that we couldn't post today. And stay tuned for the true beginning of...OUR HOMELESS ADVENTURE.

  3. I definitely said "offici" and "cacti" to myself while I was reading. We love making things plural with an "i"!
