We went to Canyonlands National Park today, which was as amazing and as hot as Arches Nat'l Park. Canyonlands is a huge expanse of land that is essentially cut into three sections that do not connect by any roads. They are separated by large canyon rims and two rivers, forming a big upside-down peace sign. The three sections are the Island in the Sky, which is the section we visited; the Needles, which can be accessed from a road around 100 miles to the south; and the Maze, which is apparently more of a four-wheeling, twisty canyon type of area. We were still really tired today, so our exploration of the park was limited to most of the shorter hikes and paved roads designed for wimps.

Robbie standing to the left of Mesa arch. It's huge! There is an extremely steep drop behind the arch, so this was a little scary for him.
Us sitting in front of the arch. Camera auto-timer success!

We aren't exactly sure of our next move. We are leaving our campsite tomorrow morning, and we will likely be driving west to the other three Utah national Parks - Zion, Bryce Canyon, and Capitol Reef. We sort of hit a tired-wall today. I'm not sure if it's related to the heat or the fact that we've been sightseeing nonstop for two weeks (or perhaps a combination of the two). We're really tired, so we're going to eat some dinner with the sunset and get some sleep.
Sounds like it's time for a hotel with a pool! The arches are absolutely amazing, but the weather sounds really draining. Sounds like the temps are really going to be high for a couple of days. Be careful....Love you!
ReplyDeleteSo I guess I can't complain about the heat here then? Just dropping in a hello..glad that the trip has been such an awesome journey. Been checking in daily and always awed by the sights you all are seeing. Can't believe its already been two weeks!
ReplyDeleteRobbie..new map in the game, and I'm going to get the bluetooth this weekend so we can be uber cool winners cross country!

ReplyDeleteA new map!!! Oh how I miss video games!!
ReplyDeleteWe are leaving camp now and heading on to the other side of the state. We will see if pool and tv win out in a couple hours!
Canyonlands is awesome... Remember the guy on the bike when we were out jeeping that last time we were there? hahaha... Stacey and I were laughing about that the other day. The pictures are great and love the auto-timer on the camera so that you can both be in them. Be safe and have fun.... Love you bunches!
