Far away...but still in Florida

Miles driven today: 435
Today's View:

The view wasn't too exciting, with the exception of lots of trees and swampy-looking land. We drove through the state capitol in Tallahassee, and we passed about 8,000 policemen out patrolling I-10. We made it to Pensacola with only minimal cramping of limbs. We have moved one time zone to the west, and we have survived the day on several snacks that are delicately packed in the back seat:

This morning was a little crazy. I promised a picture of our sad, homeless sleeping situation, and here it is:

We brought Hailey and Sarah's air mattress back to them last night, so all we had were our camping pads and one flannel sheet. Our towels were packed, and all we had left were some clothes. This caused a serious dilemma: Do we want to sleep ON the one sheet and freeze to death, or do we want the sheet to cover us so we will sleep directly on the (possibly gross) pads? We finally improvised and settled for sleeping on some of Robbie's t-shirts, and we were able to sleep with a blanket like normal, civilized people.

We packed up the rest of our things, we said goodbye to our empty townhouse, and left Tampa. It was very, very weird. Kirby (Jen's car) has left our possession, and he and Mr. Plant are safely hanging out at Ashley's house until they leave next week. Kit (Robbie's car) got to go north of Gainesville today, which is something he has never done. Florida is really, really long. It doesn't seem that big, but we drove all day and we ended up...in Florida.

We are now safe and sound at Austin and Rachel's, sitting on their comfy couch. They fed us, and generally allowed us to mooch off of them. We might just go ahead and stay here for a month..I'm sure they wouldn't mind.

Family computer time

Posing in front of their fireplace..fireplaces are absolutely essential in Florida

Anyway, time to watch a movie. We are driving all the way to Austin tomorrow, so we need to get some rest tonight.

  1. drive safely my sister... good to see that after driving ALL DAY you still ended up in Florida. I remember that in Montana as well... but then again, Montana has THE scariest road I've ever been on in my life... remember, don't take the Northeast road out of Yellowstone... at all costs!
    thanks for the update!

  3. Glad you all made it safe to your first stop! I-10 is sooooo boring...it's like an endless corridor of trees, so I understand the sensation. And Robbie...your hair looks cut in the pics..did you make one final farewell trip to Great Clips before you left?! Did you tell them how horrible they treated us? Don't worry..I'll keep the dream alive and continue to go there no matter how often they scalp me. Have an amazing trip of a lifetime you two..I'm already looking forward to the celebratory end-of-the-school-year feast next June..you pick the restaurant in Oregon buddy! Take care!

  8. Austin and I loved having you two stay the night! We hope you had safe travels today, and will continue to do so throughout this month! I'm sure you'll have plenty of stories to share, hopefully no more tree frogs invading people's houses! FYI, we had 0 frogs tonight to show Austin's family... bummer.
